LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joseph Bellino on Wednesday applauded a state grant to help the village of Dundee replace lead pipes in its community.
“This funding will help ensure Dundee families have clean and safe drinking water,” said Bellino, R-Monroe. “Thankfully, the Legislature passed this program in 2022 to help Michigan communities keep their water safe. This is the kind of long-term infrastructure improvement that I have strongly supported, and I will continue to fight for similar proactive investments as we continue the state budget process.”
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy awarded the village of Dundee with a $325,335 Community Technical, Managerial, and Financial Support for Lead Line Replacement grant.
The funds are to support work related to Dundee’s lead service line replacement program, including field verification to be conducted for approximately 227 service lines at properties where lead is suspected but not confirmed or where service line material is unknown but likely contains lead.
Under Public Act 166 of 2022, the Legislature appropriated $48 million for a grant program for community technical, managerial, and financial support for lead line replacement. The overall goal of the grant program is to fund physical verification of lead service lines for submittal of Complete Distribution System Materials Inventory required under the 2018 Lead and Copper Rule changes and assist communities in utilizing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Drinking Water State Revolving Fund dollars for lead line replacement.
