Bellino votes for bill to save Michigan’s tipped wage

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joseph Bellino, R-Monroe, issued the following statement after voting for Senate-approved legislation on Thursday to preserve the state’s tipped wage:

“This bipartisan solution will help save our state’s tipped wage, preserve the jobs and livelihoods of up to 50,000 Michigan service workers and enable family restaurants to stay open.

“I have been calling for action to avoid a catastrophe if court-imposed mandates go into effect next week. This compromise is not perfect, but it’s a workable plan that puts Michigan restaurant workers over out-of-state special interest groups and gives small businesses more time to prepare.

“While this is a big victory for hospitality workers and businesses, our work is not done yet. We must continue to work together to find common ground on a flexible leave time solution that effectively serves the needs of Michigan families without overburdening family-owned small businesses.”
