LANSING, Mich. — After watching Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2025 State of the State address Wednesday night, Sen. Joseph Bellino, R-Monroe, issued the following statement:
“The governor has repeatedly sounded bipartisan in her previous State of the State addresses, only to fail to follow through afterward. With a new Republican House, I hope this year will be different, but I am not putting any money on it.
“We need to work together to address the important issues facing families and workers, like improving education for all our students, fixing our local roads and bridges, and allowing them to keep more of their own money.
“We don’t need more government and more taxes. Our state budget is 40% larger than it was when this governor took office. Rather than take more money out of people’s pockets to fund more mandates, we need to cut the red tape and wasteful spending and put our tax dollars to better and more efficient use — including giving much-needed relief to Michigan families.”
